How to measure curtains
Ideally your curtain pole or track should be already in place before measuring. If you do not have a pole or track in place measure the width of your window and add 40cm onto each side.
We strongly advise that you use a metal measuring tape for accurate sizes and all measurements should be in cm to the nearest ½ cm. (5mm)
Please double-check all your measurements as we cannot accept responsibility for errors.
1. Measure Width - Diagram 1
If you have a pole fitted, measure the distance between the finials (decorative ends of the pole). If you have a track fitted just measure the total length of the track.
2. Measure Curtain Drop - Diagram 2
Firstly you need to decide where you want your curtains to finish. If you require floor length curtains measure from the top of the track or from the bottom of the pole, to the lowest point on the floor (check both sides of the window and use the longest measurement in case your floor is uneven). We suggest that floor length finish 1 1/2cms above the floor. If you want to create a puddled curtain please ensure you allow additional length. If you require sill length curtains, we suggest either 1cms above the sill or 15cms below, depending on your own taste.
Measure Curtain Drop - Pencil & Pinch Pleat
Now you have decided where you want your curtains to finish. You need to measure the following 2 parts to ensure you get the right look for your curtains:
Part 1: Measure the drop from the eye ring. (This is the distance from the track or curtain ring eye to where you require your curtain to finish).
Part 2: Measure the heading height. The heading height is the distance from the eye to where you would like to top of your curtain to finish. We recommend your heading height for a track should be to the top of the track to hide it so measurement is from the bottom of the eye to the top of the track C-D. For a pole, we recommend a height of 2cms above the curtain ring eye or according to taste you can measure it just above the pole. Curtains do hang better with smaller headings.
Measure Curtain Drop - Eyelets
For eyelet curtains you will need to decide where you want your curtains to finish and measure from the top of the pole to the finish required length. Eyelet curtains cannot be fitted to a track.
